MMEA Receives Another Bay Class Patrol Vessel From Australia

PORT KLANG (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) received another Bay Class patrol vessel from the Australian government after the first which was delivered on Feb 27.

Its director-general Datuk Mohd Amdan Kurish said the ship named 'Kapal Maritim (KM) Satria' would be based in Johor Baharu to combat human smuggling activities in the southern maritime region.

"The southern region is a hotbed for human smuggling activities to third countries and the arrival of this vessel is timely to enhance patrols to curb the menace.

"But it won't only be used for this purpose, it will also help safeguard maritime security," he told reporters after the ceremony to receive and give the vessel the new name, here.

Also present was Australia's Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia Dr Angella MacDonald.

The first vessel named 'KM Perwira' is based in Lumut, Perak and tasked with combating transborder crimes.
